Five Strategies to Pull In Additional Subscribers to Your Firm’s Blawg

Attorneys often tell me that although they put out the energy to produce and maintain a blog, they find it challenging to attract more readers. I have written a checklist of a few hints that with just a small amount of effort, will help to give more publicity to your legal blog.

1. Post the legal blog to suitable web directories. Even though this should appear to be obvious, I am shocked at how many law firms fail to actually do this. Distributing your firm’s blog to directories will help to give men and women searching for your blawg material the opportunity to find it. The following is a checklist of some blog directories to get you started: Blawg, Technorati, MyBlogLog, and ABA Blawg Directory. There are countless others as well. Simply perform a search for “Legal Blog Directories” and start submitting.

2. Use Twitter to share your blawg posts. The nice thing about Twitter is that like-minded individuals can locate one another and discuss thoughts and content. You can easily implement a service, such as twitterfeed, to automatically tweet your posts as you publish them to your blog.

3. LinkedIn Groups and Facebook. Spreading your posts and thoughts with fellow law firms and group members via LinkedIn and Facebook is a very good method to gain additional exposure. Start off by becoming a member of relevant LinkedIn groups such as Legal Blogging, Lawyer Marketing Group, Legal Marketing, and any others that may be more practice specific. Share your posts with the LinkedIn groups. If you write intriguing material, individuals will visit to read and subscribe.

4. Comment on various other Lawyer’s blawgs. The very character of blogging lends itself to engaging and discussion. Take time to browse other interesting blog posts and remark on these, expressing your thoughts. DO NOT SPAM. The point of this activity is to include yourself in the blogging community and join in the dialogue, not spam others.

5. Take advantage of social bookmark sites to submit your very best posts. Posting a good article to sites such as Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, and Delicious can generate readers to your blog. If individuals like the posts you wrote, they will “vote” for it. This will bring new visitors to your blawg.
